ARFF - Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting

The ARFF station at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport was created in 1972. It was manned for 20 years by Police officers dual-trained in Aircraft Rescue. In 1992, the decision was made to man the station with paid professional firefighters.
The Lakefront Airport is owned and operated by the Orleans Levee District Non-Flood Division, which is an agency of the State of Louisiana, therefore all firefighters at the airport are employees of the State. The Fire Department is supervised by the Airport Operations Manager.
